There are many ways to build your collection, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Diecast Size
There are many different scales of diecast vehicles, but the most popular car 1:12, 1:36, and 1:43. Using the same example above, you may decide only to collect lorries with a scale of 1:36. It’s also worth noting that the larger-scale models come with additional features such as opening and closing doors.
Diecast Manufacturer
There are over 260 manufacturers that used to manufacture diecast vehicles or still do today. Most of them specialise in specific vehicle types. For example, WSI Models is well-known for lorries, producing over 300 different models. With a little bit of research, you could create a collection of particular vehicle types, sizes and manufacturers. You may decide to mix the manufacturers but keep the size and vehicle type the same.
Theme
You can create almost any theme. For example, you could collect all of the diecast cars that appeared in James Bond movies. Or, using the example above, you could collect every Eddie Stobart vehicle. Choosing a theme is up to you and best when you’re interested in it.
Period
Diecast vehicles appeared around the early 20th century, so there are plenty of periods to choose from for your collection. If you’re fond of supercars from the 1980s, then go ahead and collect those ones, for instance.
Getting Started
Before getting started with your diecast collection, think about the types of vehicles that interest you and start researching around that idea. Of course, you don’t have to have one collection. If you’ve got multiple ideas, perhaps start and complete one before moving on to the next. Over time with research and patience, you’ll eventually have a wonderful collection you can be proud of.
